Reflect and school governance
In 2007 Oxfam GB organised a workshop in Dori, Burkina Faso that aimed to improve the quality of school governance systems in the areas where OGB's education programme was operating and to increase the participation of all stakeholders in the local management of education. Oxfam wanted to create more space for discussing education challenges at the local level and provide opportunities for such discussions to feed into the themes and priorities of local, national and international campaigns. The school governance manuel developed by Pamoja in 2005 was adapted to form the basis of the workshop.
Participants were drawn from five Oxfam NGO partners in Mali and Burkina. The 8 day wrkshop introduced participants to PRA tools and Reflect principles and these were applied to analyse issues linked to school governance. Field work in a nearby community enabled the approach to be tested.
