CADEFE and PASDI Afrique, Pamoja Togo members, are making remarkable actions

Mrs. Esse Afua Kafui and the host of Radio Sky FM during one of the Radio broadcasts carried out in Badou

The Action Circle for the Development and Development of Women and Children (CADEFE) has carried out two flagship actions in the Prefecture of Wawa (Plateaux Region): radio broadcasts and awareness-raising in the markets. Hosted by Mrs. ESSE Afua Kafui (Executive Director of CADEFE) on Radio Sky FM, the programs were in French and in the national languages spoken in the area (Ewe, Ikposso and Kotokoli). They focused on the nature, symptoms, propagation mechanisms, means of prevention/protection of COVID-19… They greatly contributed to revealing the functioning of the disease to  rural communities, that are less informed.

Awareness-raising activity in the Badou markets

In addition, CADEFE organized awareness sessions in the markets of Zogbegan, Okou and Kessibo. The volunteers of the NGO interviewed the users on the adoption of barrier gestures, in particular the regular washing of hands, the physical distance, the prohibition of greetings in shaking hands . Particular emphasis has been placed on wearing masks. To help women adopt this prescription, masks were distributed free of charge. The NGO was able to carry out these activities through the collaboration with the medical team of the Prefectural Hospital Center (CHP) of Badou and the local committee of response against the pandemic of COVID-19.

To give the example, the NGO PASDI-Afrique (Social Action Program for Integral Development in Africa) for its part installed a hand washing device at its headquarters. Staff, trainees and visitors are all required to wash their hands before entering the premises, wearing their mufflers and respecting physical distancing. As for literacy facilitators, they are sensitized and instructed not to start any session without respecting barrier gestures.

Thanks to its partners (Plan International Togo, Water Charity, etc.) and with its own funds, PASDI-Afrique has also carried out actions in the Prefecture of Mô:

  • staff reinforcement in individual interviews;
  • distance parenting training for families and caregivers for good care during lockdown;
  • home visits to children’s clubs, children with disabilities and their parents, artisans, community leaders …;
  • gift of hand washing device in the village of Konohoé and the Tohoun market (Canton of Tohoun);
  • disinfection of public places;
  • awareness-raising (door to door, radio broadcasts, educational talks, distribution of posters, etc.);
  • distribution of materials/equipment and accessories (masks / mufflers, gloves, hand washing device, hydro alcoholic solution, soaps, etc. and other disinfectants) to the communes; etc.
